Delphine Coindet (*1969) has been developing sculptures for twenty years that are defined by their own ambivalence. Some of her works are based on a particular type of design, architecture or theatre backdrop. Other works seem to originate from the screen, like symbols and visualisations that manifest themselves here in real space. This disconcerting plastic expression serves various narratives, both political and personal. Each of her exhibitions offers the artist the opportunity to stage a specific new production, recycling older works and showing them in a new composition.
Her exhibition Autofriction in the Salle Poma brings together some of her most recent works in an overall installation. This principle of monumental and retrospective accumulation is reminiscent of important avant-garde actions — from Kurt Schwitter’s Merzbau to Maurizio Cattelan’s All. Coindet's proposal, on the other hand, is less demonstrative and powerful. As the title suggests (from the French Selbst-Reibung, a play on words with autofiction), the artist favours a playful approach that testifies to a certain ironic detachment.
